Rev. Lynn Benson – Director of Legacy Giving, UMF
As we come to the close of Women’s History Month, I have been blessed by so many great articles this month around this important topic. Many of these articles came from podcasts that I enjoy listening to every month as I travel around our conference. Here are some of my favorites:
Womanica
Jill on Money
Frugal Friends
Nonprofits Are Messy
On Being
Eye on Money
Everyday Wealth
Her Money
Everything Happens
Afford Anything
Each of these podcasts are hosted by a woman and/or women and I have learned so much by following/subscribing to their shows. Some are daily and others are weekly. Most of these tackle “money” issues, but not all of them. Some are interview formats, while others are Q&A sessions. Most are about 30 minutes, but one is less than five minutes, and one is usually an hour. In other words, there is lots of variety.
Statistically women live longer than men, and men are the ones who take care of the finances in relationships. This spells trouble for women who are not naturally money-savvy, as we might suddenly have to make financial decisions that we are unprepared to make. If this describes you, begin now to educate yourself regarding personal finance. Many of the podcasts I listed above would make a good place to start. Additionally, make sure you have your estate plans in place (and if in place, reviewed every 10 years or so).
Women have made and continue to make amazing contributions to our world. We have much to offer and I am proud of what we have accomplished. Now let’s take charge of our financial lives so that we can be faithful stewards of all God has entrusted to us in this lifetime.
