It has been a busy time for our Sound District Lay Servant Board members with a planning meeting and Certified Lay Speaker interviews. LMS classes to be taught were discussed and planned for the next six months.
The Zoom classes we are offering are
* The Basic class: An Introduction to Lay Servant Ministries on March 5th
taught by Jackie Attaway, Bobby Meadows, and Roxie Cauley.
*Life Together in the UM Connection (UM Polity) on April 30th
taught by Rev Taylor Mills, pastor of Ann Street UMC
Look in the Lay Servant Ministry section of this newsletter to find the class lists and click on the link to register. All are welcome to participate in our classes.
In addition, the Sound District has two newly Certified Lay Speakers!
* Linda Hevner of Ann Street UMC in Beaufort
* Stanley Sutton of Hickory Grove UMC near LaGrange
We know that you will enjoy these willing servants as they fill pulpits and humbly serve in other roles in their churches and within the Sound District.
Some more thoughts — it has been a week of hearts, chocolates, cards, and flowers as we have celebrated Valentine’s Day. There is another day this week that is important—
Friday, February 18th is designated as Caregiver Appreciation Day
What would we do without caregivers?
Some caregivers are paid and provide a much needed service for the sick and elderly. Often caregivers are family members who take the role of providing care and assistance for loved ones. Grandparents look after grandchildren for their working children. Many times it is children looking after their parents as well as grandchildren.
A friend at church comes to mind-she helps provide care for four generations. She assists her siblings to care for their mother with Alzheimer’s, helps care for a son who was injured in an accident, and helps care for grandchildren as well being a wife. She participates in activities at church and sings in the choir. ..a true servant.
Caregivers make life better for others whether they are paid or just looking after family. It can be a thankless task and is draining physically and mentally.
If we love (serve) one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.
1 John 4:12
This week make a special effort to recognize a caregiver… Send a card of appreciation, offer thanks, kind words and listening ear when you see them. Show the caregivers some love for the tasks they assume for another person.
Grace and peace,
Roxie
