2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light ….
6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given……And the government will be upon His shoulder and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:2a, 6 NKJV
Christmas lights, don’t you just love them? All the lights from Christmas trees shining through the windows of people’s homes, the decorated streets, and the lighted water tower that looks like a crown, as well as the lighted outside decorations placed to celebrate Christmas. If you have not done so, take a ride just to enjoy the lights…take a young child with you to share their enthusiasm or take a person who no longer drives to be amazed at the beauty of the Christmas lights.
One of my favorite things this year has been the reflection of our Christmas tree in the dining room windows at night. An imperfect fir tree with long boughs, a gaping hole in the front, and a flat backside with an angel on top and several Nativity ornaments plus many more decorations carefully placed by my granddaughter.
It is a pretty tree but its reflection of the white lights in the dark windows reminds me of the Light that Christ brought into the dark world. That imperfect tree reminds of my own imperfections and my need to depend on our Lord, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace for guidance daily. The reflection of the tree reminds me to reflect the Light of the World to others I meet each day…. to be a light for them.
How can you better reflect the Light of Christ to others?
Please pray with me: Gracious, loving and merciful God, open our hearts and minds to see the opportunities You give us to share your Light with others we met this Christmas season and in the days to come. Give us courage and willingness to share a touch, a kind word, a prayer, or a needed gift to improve lives and circumstances of others. In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Hope to see you in a Lay Servant Ministry class in the coming year!
In the love of Christ,
