This past Sunday the Children’s Message was simple, effective, and thought provoking. Laura took a bottle of water, inserted a straw, and added cooking oil to fill the bottle. She asked the children to observe how the oil completely covered the water and compared the oil to the fear that overpowered the disciples as they were hidden in a room.
Next Laura asked a child to blow air bubbles into the bottle. Those bubbles of breath rose up through the water and forced the oil out and into a bowl below. Then she said that Jesus “breathed on them” imparted the Holy Spirit to the disciples to take away their fears so that they could go out and share the Gospel with the people.
Thank you, Laura, for a wonderful lesson for the adults as well!
Our next Lay Servant Ministries class is one of the Preaching classes taught by Rev Linda Taylor –
From Your Heart to Theirs: Delivering an Effective Sermon
This class offers ways to compose a sermon is covered as well how to prepare a children’s sermon.
The class to be taught in May is filled to capacity; however there is a waiting list. If you are interested in this preaching class, put your name and information on the waiting list! The persons on the list will be contacted when another class is offered, hopefully in the fall! Check– https://nccumc.org/leadership/laity/lay-servant-ministries/
One other thing to share this morning, in our last Zoom class there was a person who could not connect to the Zoom link. The person had read the textbook for the class and asked if could receive credit which is a reasonable request however it is not possible. This policy is shared ahead of time to all who register for courses.
Lay Servant Ministry classes require prior reading of the textbook, completing any assignments prior to class, and participating in a class (in person, on line or via Zoom) led by an instructor who uses the Leader’s guide to teach the competencies of the class. The time spent in class should be at least ten contact hours. The goal of the classes is to prepare lay speakers to accurately share doctrines of the Methodist Church in their messages. A Certificate of Completion is given when all those requirements have been met. When you receive your certificate put it in a place where you know where it is! Then completing your Annual Report and knowing which classes you need to take is a breeze,
Thank you for understanding, share this because we have found that in classes that people do not always understand this!
Warm blessings in this Easter season!
