– Kim R. Smith, Sound District Lay Leader
On a recent weekend escape to see one of my daughters, we chose to stay at Lake Junaluska. The lake had been drawn down and at first we saw nothing but mud. An hour after our arrival the entire area around the lake was covered in a beautiful blanket of snow.
Snow covered canoes and kayaks can seem kind of sad at first glance. Then, if you really think about it… hopeful! I mean we all need to rest right?
Our lives are filled with days when we are moving constantly. Our hearts are sometimes in the hands of people we don’t know who may or may not… handle them with care. Some days everything will go smoothly and we can find a moment to be still. Others, we will be tossed upside down and barely make it to our resting place for the night.
We are not unlike the kayaks resting in the snow. Behind them is a lake that will awaken after the winter. These vessels will begin to carry hearts again as they introduce them to Lake Junaluska through their busy season. For now… they rest… they wait… they anticipate the next season.
Take time to let your hearts and minds rest. We have been through a lot, but there is so much excitement and anticipation that awaits us as well. Recognize this moment in time as a season that will fade into memory and transition to another. Find time to ground your heart so you will be ready to embrace this new season of hope.
If you are having trouble finding a way to silence the world and anchor your heart with prayer, try the app our new Bishop suggests, Pray as You Go. It has helped me slow down, focus on prayer, and to be more intentional with doing it regularly.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV
