We give thanks for those who answer the call to servant leadership in the church, and in our Sound District. Meet Daniel Larimore, our new District Youth Coordinator. Here’s a a quick glimpse of who Daniel is.
When my dad’s job transferred our family to Kinston, NC we became a part of a small church, Garris Chapel UMC in La Grange, NC. Garris Chapel is the place where I truly began my formal relationship with Christ. I went through confirmation, joining the local church and giving my heart over to Christ. It is through this lifelong journey in the UMC that I began to develop into greater roles in the North Carolina Conference. I am now a pediatric nurse at ECU Health. I am attending and volunteering with St. James UMC in Greenville and my heart has regained its ability to minister openly to the youth of the church and the conference. I have regularly staffed conference youth events and I see what these young people are capable of if given the support and resources. When I heard from Jon Strother that I had been on the short list to follow Julia Johnson in this role, and that he would like to speak with me about serving, I knew this was a significant role and responsibility to take on. With the help of Christ, the support of the district and the local churches, I pray we can come together in new ways. In my eight years of leading youth ministry, I have learned the most successful youth ministry starts with Christ and involves the youth in the leading.
First, I want to offer of myself, and although I may seem young; my experience far surpasses my age. I want to be a sounding board for the local youth pastors and volunteer leaders and hear what is working and is not working in local youth ministry, so expect one-on-one communication with me in the not-so-distant future. Secondly, I would like to build on the blocks Julia previously set in motion and help Sound District be the model for district youth ministry in the conference. Thirdly, I would like to do service, witness, mission, and lead with the youth and develop a team around me that is willing to help mutually work towards more ministry coming out of our district. And lastly, and most importantly, I want to be in prayer together with you and help the youth of the district to know they are loved, and that Christ is the cornerstone of all the ministry we do. I look forward to meeting you and serving together!
