“Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and their faith.” Hebrews 13:7
Who has been a leader to you? Who spoke about the attributes of our God? Who lived the words they spoke?
I am one of those greatly blessed people who had Christian parents. Don’t ever remember not saying Grace before I eat, a prayer before going to sleep, or reading my Bible. It has always been a part of my life because that is what my leaders, my parents, did. Every night, before I knew how to read, they read to my sister and I out of a book titled 365 BIBLE STORIES FOR CHILDREN. What exciting stories they were. So exciting that I still read those stories today and still get inspired by their words.
My father was a hard nosed career Marine, but began each day reading from a devotion book and his Bible. His favorite book was MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST by Oswald Chambers. If you knew him you probably received a copy from him.
What a treat it was to go with Mom to take a meal to a new neighbor. That was her way of welcoming them into the neighborhood and inviting them to church. Mom also began each day reading her Bible. As she was failing and could no longer understand the written word she still put the Bible on her lap each morning and stared at the words. I am convinced that the Lord was putting the words upon her heart.
What great leaders they were. They taught me about God, read His word to me, and taught me through their actions how to pass that word on to others. One of the greatest gifts they passed on to me was to not just attend a worship service, but to be an integral part of a congregation.
These are also some of the same things that the classes offered by the Lay Servant Ministries team offers. When attending a class you not only learn from the teacher; you also learn from each other. There is always a time of sharing. A time of asking questions, sharing experiences, and just getting to know one another. This is a blessing to me.
Hope to see you in one of the upcoming classes. Everyone is welcome.
Blessings,
Jackie
