The At-Large Delegates who will represent the Sound District as part of the Lay Equalization Plan, have been approved by the Board of Laity. Everyone who was nominated will be notified by mail from the conference by April 1st. It was a wonderful blessing to have so many more nominated than we could accommodate with the numbers allowed for our District! That means people are excited about serving at Annual Conference this year… IN PERSON!!
Thank you for your grace with me as I have learned this process over the past two years. Last year, my husband was hospitalized with COVID, and I was sick too as the deadline approached. It was a struggle for sure, but with the grace of God and so many of you who helped and supported me in the work, we got it done. This year, with the ability for laity and clergy to submit nominations themselves online, the process was much smoother.
As a reminder of the process used this year, any pastor or member of the laity could make nominations for At-Large Delegates. The nominees were first reviewed by our District Superintendent Jon Strother and me. Then, the nominations were reviewed with a sub-committee consisting of myself, Ann Davis, and the Lay Leader of the Beacon District. The nominees were then reviewed once again by the entire Board of Laity followed by the election for all of those representing the NC Conference.
We had many wonderful nominees and I know in 2023 with an improved process, we will have an even larger number from which to choose an At-Large Delegation. Your assistance and that of the local clergy was and will continue to be crucial in making sure our delegation is as diverse and dynamic as this wonderful District.
Here is the data from the Sound District slate of delegates for the 2022 Annual Conference!
- 52 total nominees (1 Duplicate who will be a delegate in another area)
- 39 Delegates Elected
- 8 Alternates
- 54 percent of the Delegates are women
- 49 percent of the Delegates are men
- 31 percent of the Delegates represent youth, young adults, and/or minorities
- 28 Churches made one or more nominations
I am looking forward to seeing many of you this year at Annual Conference! If you are interested in growing your faith by experiencing a new way of serving, please reach out to me or to our Lay Servant Ministry Team. There are so many opportunities to move hearts from the pews…out into the world to create “Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.”
