“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end.” – Luke 1:32-33
Here we are – – celebrating the Advent Season. We are anticipating the coming of the Son of the Most High. Wow! How should we prepare? Should we be buying more gifts? Should we be decorating more? Should we plan a big party? Just what should we do?
We go to church each Sunday and watch someone light the Advent Candle and hear a reading about what it means. We hear a good sermon. We attend Christmas parties. We buy presents. We listen to Christmas music. We watch Christmas movies. We do, we do, we do. But is that all that Advent is? Is that all there is to preparing for the coming of the Son of the Most High?
Maybe not. While all those things are inspirational, fun, and inspiring; is that all we should do to prepare? While doing all these activities, are we preparing our hearts, our souls for Christmas?
I would like to suggest a few ways that we can prepare our mind and heart for Christmas:
- Set aside a time for personal Bible Study each day.
- Give time to a local charity.
- Have a personal/family Advent wreath.
- Find an Advent study and read each day.
- Pray.
These are by no means the only ways that we can approach the Advent Season, but I think it will give us a start.
Hoping that we see you in the New Year in one of our District’s Lay Servant Ministry classes. Watch this space, the Sound District, and the NC Conference website for upcoming classes.
My Christmas prayer is that everyone grow closer to our Lord this Christmas.
Blessings,
Jackie
