Would you like to go fishing? Cypress Creek United Methodist Church goes fishing together on a regular basis! Instead of poles and bait, they fish with pottery and love.
Throughout the year, this small in numbers congregation, creates unique pieces of pottery each with the symbol of a fish. Each treasure is created with purpose and delivered with BIG love.
Together with their pastor, the members of the congregation go door to door in the neighborhoods surrounding their church. They walk, they knock or ring doorbells so they can deliver pottery and an invitation. They fish for hearts.
The invitation might be for an upcoming Vacation Bible School or holiday event. The pottery might be delivered with a hug and a contact card for the pastor. Each gift of a fish is delivered by someone who is hearing and listening to the call to be a disciple.
We cannot transform this world, if we don’t go out into it carrying the love of God with us. How will a broken world understand the peace Christ offers, if we never leave our buildings to show them?
One of the many things I have learned during these Charge Conferences, is that we serve a creative God! So many of you are showing a troubled world, our God in so many unique and amazingly ingenious ways. Being created in his image has new meaning for me.
Every single community within our district and this world, has people who are longing for unconditional love. Behind so many doors are lonely hearts just waiting for someone to knock and show them the way. Let’s use the unique gifts God has given us to go fishing in the Sound!
Jesus said to them, “Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.” – Matthew 4:19 CEV
