Swansboro United Methodist Church, located at 665 W. Corbett Avenue, Swansboro NC (building 2), will serve a Christmas Lovefeast in the Moravian tradition on Sunday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m. The Lovefeast dates back to the beginning of the Christian Church when Christians gathered to eat a simple meal celebrating the love that bound them together in Christ. In 1727 the Moravians revived this practice by partaking in a simple meal. The first Lovefeast in North Carolina was held in Wachovia on November 17, 1753, upon the arrival of the first Moravian colonists. The first Moravian Christmas Lovefeast in North Carolina was held at Bethabara in 1753.
The service will include music by our Chancel Choir and musical accompaniment
by our SUMC Instrumental Ensemble.
The traditional sweetened coffee, as well as the spicy-sweet Moravian buns, will be served. The service will close with lighting the Moravian beeswax candles which are trimmed in red crepe paper… reminding us all that Christmas celebrates the love that Christ brought into the world and that we are “the light of the world.”
We extend a warm welcome to all in the community to this special seasonal observance.
