Due to the unknowns of COVID-19, we are canceling the celebration for Rev. Taylor that was set for June 13th. In the stead, we would like anyone who feels led (clergy and laity alike) to donate to “1K for 1 Kid” through the Methodist Home for Children.
Something you might not know about Linda Taylor –
Here is a note from The Methodist Home for Children’s Regina Hawse, sharing Linda’s part in the creation & inception and of “1K for 1 Kid”!
A Legacy of Giving: Rev. Linda Taylor
Growing up in a household full of love, Rev Linda Taylor was keenly aware of those who were less fortunate and needed help. From a very young age, her home was “a second home” to foster children in need. Her family showed love to children who needed a soft place to land. Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
At Methodist Home for Children, for every child we serve, we lack about $1000 in funding to properly care for that child. When I heard this, I thought, “Wow, if only the churches knew that they could help take care of a child for a year, for only $1000, surely the churches would help.” You know, 1k for 1kid!! What a catchy name. When I mentioned this to Rev. Taylor, it was like a light went off. Immediately, she contacted the District Superintendent (at the time), Rev. Tim Russell, and told him about the idea of each church helping raise ‘1k for 1kid’. He thought it was a fantastic idea, and gave her the blessing to run with it. Linda did what any good preacher does, she turned to her congregation. Mr. Bill Pharr, of Oleander UMC, was the first to take up the mantle. He got fully behind it with Linda, and 1k for 1kid was born.
Since the inception of ‘1k for 1kid’, the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church has fully embraced ‘1k for 1kid’ in the churches across the conference. Bishop Al Gwinn promoted ‘1k for 1kid’ during his term and took a special offering at his retirement for ‘1k for 1kid’. Today, Bishop Hope Morgan Ward continues being a part of the ‘1k for 1kid’ initiative. Thousands of dollars have been raised (just over $490,000 to date) and many, many children and families have been helped…. all because of Rev. Linda Taylor. As the song says, “It only takes a spark to get a fire going.” Rev. Linda Taylor is truly that spark.
Let us all continue making sparks and donate any amount you feel led to donate in Honor of Rev. Linda Taylor.

From: Chairperson, District Committee of Superintendency
Dear church family,
This pandemic has greatly impinged upon our normal way of doing things. This includes the celebration of Rev. Linda Taylor’s ministry in our district. I know that she has had a positive impact, both individually and corporately, in the life of our churches during her tenure. Since we cannot have an in-person celebration at this time, I am recommending we send cards, letters, or emails to Rev. Linda telling her what her ministry has meant to us in our ministry. I am sure these written testimonies will mean a great deal to her and will be something she can reflect upon for years to come. In the meantime, know that we are still looking forward to having some sort of celebration when all our restrictions have been lifted.
God bless all of you and your ministries. Stay strong!
Blessings, Rev. Thomas (Tim) Nichols
