Hello Sound District!
The Conference staff has been hard at work getting ready for our in-person annual conference coming up in June. We are so excited for the opportunity to see folks and celebrate the power of our connection, making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world! I hope to see you in Greenville June 15-18. Don’t miss the Creation Care breakout session (or any of the other wonderful offerings!) The Health Ministry Team will host health screenings and provide information on mental health, covid updates and opioid crisis response. I’m looking forward to hearing Janet Wolf, the Diversity Celebration, and of course the ice cream social!

Personally, I enjoyed my first UMVIM trip to El Salvador May 2-9. We were a small, but dedicated team working with Salvadoran Mission Projects. We did some painting and helped move some concrete blocks from a truck on the street up to the second level of the school, which currently serves 450 pre-kindergarden to high school students. The school is expanding to include a health clinic and to make more classrooms. We also visited with some pastors and heard about how God is answering prayers and meeting the needs of the people. It was great getting to know our GBGM missionary, Ellyn Dubberly and her husband Brian, who leads the Mission Projects. And we enjoyed spending time with Bishop Juan De Dios Pina, who took us downtown for ice cream several times!

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and our wonderful Media Specialist, Laura Dallas has put together a fantastic reading list “written by Asian American authors to honor their significant contribution to the work of the church.” Check it out!
Are you noticing an ice cream theme? It is almost officially summer time! Which means hurricane season is upon us. Be sure you’re prepared! https://nccumc.org/leadership/disaster/training/
