Give grudgingly or of necessity? I am quite familiar with this concept. At least, when we speak of giving time.
As a young mother of 4 daughters, I often got up in the morning and grudgingly went through my list of “have to dos”. Fix breakfast, make sure lunches were prepared, girls had their clothes ready to put on, get myself ready and off to work. Then after work get each girl to Scouts, club meeting, track, softball, etc., etc., etc. As the years sped by and the girls grew I began to turn my “have to dos” into “get to dos”. I gradually began to understand what a gift God had given me. FOUR GIRLS. I needed to show how I appreciated that by becoming a cheerful giver. What a change it made. I was still tired and didn’t always enjoy driving all over town, but by the end of the day I could be cheerful that I had these girls in my life.
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. [2 Corinthians 9:7]
How cheerful of a giver of your time are you? Find a quiet place where you can commune with God and share you concerns and your praises. Then sit quietly, listen for God, and be a cheerful giver of your time.
