This month our district is invited to focus on the word: “Committed”. Each of us is invited to ask God to open our eyes to the ways God is demonstrating His commitment to us and all people; right where we live and work and play. In worship and study we see God’s ultimate expression of commitment towards us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. We see in Jesus’ life, and hear in his witness, a call to justice. Jesus empowers us to not only think justice, but to flesh it out right where we are – to “do” justice. That requires a commitment on our part. But it is God’s initiative. God restoring, healing and making things right, between God and human beings; our relationships with each other, and with all the creation. In our membership vows we commit to, “be loyal to the United Methodist Church, and uphold it by (our) prayers, presence, gifts, service, and (our) witness.” Living out these vows, faithfully, is only possible because of God’s commitment of faithfulness to each of us.
Praying For One Another in 2022
We begin a new practice this month, as we invite each congregation to embrace a simple, but powerful practice, and to consider including it in our worship. Each Sunday we will highlight two congregations in our district and their pastors, encouraging them to be listed in our worship bulletins, and If possible, spoken by name during our corporate prayers. They can also be added to weekly prayer lists and prayed for each day of the week. And so we begin…..

“A Christian community either lives by the intercessory prayers of its members for one another, or the community will be destroyed. I can no longer condemn or hate other Christians for whom I pray, no matter how much trouble they cause me. In intercessory prayer the face that may have been strange and intolerable to me is transformed into the face of one for whom Christ died, the face of a pardoned sinner. That is a blessed discovery for the Christian…”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer
